I liked this. I read the other two books a while ago and don’t remember them well but I like Alosa a lot. However I wasn’t too disappointed for a fresh viewpoint. Sorinda is pretty badass- she reminds me of Inej from Six of Crows but not quite as cool. I also like Roslyn and her personality. Good book with some action and a bit of romance (could’ve used more thrown in/hinted at).

Book 3 in this world didn't quite hit the same as the other two. It's really not even due to the change of main character. I really love Sorinda, and for the most part, I like Kearan. But I really didn't connect with the story.

I liked diving into Sorindas life and learning what made her turn to the life she did. It was heartbreaking, and I felt for her so much. I love a badass fmc, and she was really all that and more (mostly).

BUT. I really wasn't able to connect with Kearan in this one. I feel like in the other two books, he had so much personality and brought a lot of humor to the crew, and I didn't get that in this one at all. He was so serious and blah all the time that I found him to be quite boring.

I also didn't love the plot, though it was well written. We kind of left the whole piracy storyline less than half way through the book, and it really took on this kind of magical plot line, which, I don't hate, but I also feel like it didn't fit in this series.

DID NOT FINISH: 41%

It started off good, but then I got bored.  There were moments where I was into the action, but then later I would start to skim read because I didn’t care.  I read and liked the first two books, but I don’t remember what happened as it was a long time ago.

After having loved the daughter of the pirate king series, I waited anxiously for over a year for the release of Vengeance.

Having never experienced an audiobook, I enjoyed playing this as I drove and being able to delve into this universe.

Exploring Sorinda’s back story was enjoyable, and seeing her with Kearan was everything I wanted it to be. However, I felt the plot a little out there for me, and it all seemed like such a strange twist with very little actual pirating. My favourite moments from the previous books had been reading about life on the sea and with so little in this book, it didn’t have the same effect as the pirate king books.

I almost feel it would be preferable if the author had used outside characters for this novel, ones we had never met and inserted cameos.

Overall, I’m sad to see the end of the pirate king world!

Thank you NetGalley for the free audiobook.
