The characters are frustrating at first, passive, cold and unsatisfying, but about 2/3 of the way through the book gets really good.
Esse livro é uma montanha-russa emocional, posso afirmar que ele é lindo, mas a beleza dele se encontra na agonia de pensar nas personagens LGBT se apaixonando da forma que dava em pleno mundo pós-guerras...

Enough cigarettes were smoked for all lesbians living, dead, and unborn. An all-time age-gap story... one I will revisit and think about the lost and found world described within

Read it for a course and :///
Things I liked:
- vague anti work vibes
- how awful Richard and that whole relationship was
- dannie as a foil for both Richard and Carol
- the writing style most of the time
- how horrible and flawed most of the characters were
Things I did not like:
- the weird ambiguity of whether the book saw therese and carol's relationship as healthy and good or not. Which I guess could be intentional and therefore kinda cool but it mostly just felt like it was romanticising something weird
- the facade of character growth at the end. She did not grow (except for gaining a better understanding of her queerness)

I love this book! I won't spoil anything but I've only ever come across one other LGBTQ book like it and that was "Annie on my mind". Highly recommend this book it's a great love story no matter you orientation.
