i didn’t know what to expect from this book since i’ve heard so much about the iconic movie carol but haven’t actually seen it yet. i was very pleasantly surprised by this book as the writing was so good and the tension was extremely well written. therese’s longing and desire for carol was so compelling to me. the book felt a little slow at times, especially at the beginning i was getting so tired of richard. i’m not sure how i feel about the ending and resolution, but i thought therese’s character (and really carol too) was just so well written in that i really felt like i was along on this emotional journey with her. both characters felt very real and i was continually engaged in finding out how their relationship progressed. i felt all of therese’s emotions and also enjoyed how dramatic she was about carol, very relatable experience for your first major wlw crush. overall really enjoyed this much more than i was expecting and extremely glad i read if for book club.

amazing story. the writing was a little hard to follow at times. had to reread paraphrases sometimes because we’d move locations or someone would speak but it wasn’t always clear how we got there. but after a while i got the hang of the writing. they got a “happy” ending and that’s all i care about
