Very much enjoyed, especially the way the narration mirrored Therese's moods and uncertainty throughout the book. I felt very discomforted when Therese felt that way, but felt such relief and happiness along with her, and everything in between. Easy to see why this book is a classic.

Lesbianas como as amo

a new all time favourite im sobbing

Carol is a highly interesting, yet subtly deep book. It is the emotional undercurrents that drive its plot, in fact, it is all the things that aren't explicitly written which make the book what it is. Morally, I could never recommend this book to someone. Historically, it is a most interesting read; written about a time when lesbianism was a crime. It follows the emotional pathways of Therese, our young character, and revels in a time when this was not widely accepted. Although I do not think this sin is anywhere near okay or acceptable, I found this interesting because of its historicity.

honestly, 4.5 rounded down. i'm a little bit fascinated by the way this book was handled--i feel like we were supposed to actually sympathize with richard, and the way carol treats therese feels both inconsistent and a little gross?? could write a long essay about the differences between this and the movie i'm gonna be so honest with you because i feel like the film sanitizes carol herself.

The one time insta-love didn't annoy the hell out of me, it was in a 'meh' book. But that one line of Theresa wishing Carol and her died in a tunnel just so they can be pulled out together later on had me absolutely cackling. Girly was obsessed and unhinged.

I'll watch the movie later just for Cate Blanchett.
