Really enjoyed this one! Very cool to read a novel about a lesbian relationship from the 50’s and Highsmith’s characters were so well fleshed out and complex.
I don't know why this took me forever to finish. Maybe that I knew the ending? In any case it's a really good book and once I got into the style I enjoyed it a lot. Especially the beginning when you see Therese not knowing what she is feeling but you know, it is a nice build up to her realization about her feelings. I love love love the ending, already did when I saw the movie. It was nice to get that insight on Therese that couldn't be translated onto screen in the adaption.

Therese is at times unlikable to me in a way that, via her mistreatment of acquaintances and obsession for Carol, reminds me of Otessa Moshfegs Eileen. While at times her disdain for the men in her live is completely understandable, her disdain for Carol’s choosing her daughter over her relationship is childish and blandly selfish. Her desire for Carol is also rather flat and uninteresting as is Carol’s desire for Therese. Unlike the somewhat controversial Call Me By Your Name, Therese’s fight for desire against common sense or fear is not written as beautifully as the young Elio’s when he too is being pursued by an older person with external obligations.
