I was initially captured by the writing style and descriptions of Therese's life as a temporary sales clerk with aspirations for stage design. However, most of the middle of the book dragged because Therese met Carol and the plot became quite repetitive. Further, Therese instantly loved Carol for no other reason than Carol being beautiful. The novel picked back up when the road trip happened and real emotions and stakes were introduced. Overall, I am glad that I read this classic novel and I am excited to watch the movie, even if I did not enjoy the book as much as I thought I would.

DID NOT FINISH

Around chapter 18 is when it started to feel like a chore trying to finish, but I ended up making it to 21 before putting it down. Not a bad story by any means (I really enjoyed the film), but towards the end the narration definitely dragged with repetitious yearning.
