piachem prosto w oczy przez cala ksiazke praktycznie do samego konca. /pos
OBJECTIVELY, neither better nor worse than the movie, js different. a matter of one's taste, i suppose.
subjectively... slightly, if not more than better than the movie, with more realistic and likely scenarios/behaviors from the characters.
the difference between the movie and book carol did surprise AND (at times) crush me, although in a good way. she acted more what she was supposed to be - a lonely middle-aged gay woman struggling through a divorce and later on being haunted by the possibility of losing custody of her daughter, indulging (in) a random girl that showed interest in her, finding comfort in and often taking out frustrations on her - and not a woman grown who suddenly started acting a lovesick little high schooler, forgetting all about her problems on a whim to crush and fixate on a random girl at least half her age that she held eye contact with for 4 seconds (at the place therese worked at for god's sake!!!), with therese showing little to no romantic interest in her at first on top of it all. and carol was desperate to get to her, even, after therese mailed her the gloves. it's like they completely switched their "roles" from the book.
also liked how therese was (imo) VASTLY different from her movie self. she took on the role of said "high schooler," constantly overthinking everything and feeling overwhelmed with her crush first and foremost, seeking any attention from the older woman, with carol being the more cold and standoffish one, at least at the beginning. and it simply makes SO MUCH MORE sense, given their situations, personalities, ages, and backgrounds. (not to be a hater though, because i AM a huge fan of the adaptation.!!//1!!) but i suppose that whatever they did in the movie is just the common for film idealization of romance.
do have to mention how pleasantly surprised i was at seeing this much more of abby in the book!! they didn't do her justice in the movie and showed her very superficially. now that i can finally compare the two, it just seems like her being friends with carol and being in an affair with her at some point were her only personality traits.
but alright, as much as i shat on the film, i have to admit - if it wasn't for the book simply existing, showing what carol and therese ACTUALLY are (amongst other important details), the film would have been my number one!!! (... it still kind of is... it's definitely very dear to me, no matter what i think and said here.)
either way, a cookie is GRANTED !!! for both the movie and the book. will cry about finishing it so quickly. and yes, i would sell my organs even for the slightest of possibilities of being able to read the book and watch the movie for the first time again, if i could. if only.
p.s. tereska, jestem toba, ty jestes mna.

Highsmith is so good at describing people. Even characters who come and go in a page or to - with a couple words about their appearance or a movement they make, Highsmith makes them real and alive and unique somehow. I get lost in her books like few other authors, and I think it's because her skill in description and character reaches out and envelops or involves me so thoroughly. Then suddenly it's 8 hours later and I forgot to sleep.
