hmm. i'm kinda torn. i did really enjoy the writing and the suspense in this book and i was really curious to see how things would unravel. on the other hand i did not really like the dynamic between therese and carol. it did not feel romantic to me until the moment they got chased and suddenly they started being properly affectionate towards each other (you would have expected the opposite development, but ok) but the 200 pages before that the vibes between them were just off to me. nevertheless it's nice to read a book about lesbians that has a sort of hopeful ending, especially considering what time it was written in.

I liked this book, but had higher hopes after liking the movie Carol so much.
The characters were all pretty sad and unrelatable. I didn’t like the lack of emotion or detail in the book, but think maybe it couldn’t be included and be published back at this time. I also didnt love that the character chose herself over her child at the end… I felt like there could’ve been more effort or nuance there…
I still liked the story but just wasn’t very endeared to either Therese or Carol.

I don't know how I never knew about this book before! Saw the movie (twice), loved it. Had to read the novel to know the true story. Such a well written love story that left me wanting more!!!

- Definitivamente um dos melhores livros que já li. Um livro muito sensível, estamos a ler e a sentir as emoções e a excitação do primeiro encontro...porque cada emoção está tão bem retratada e demonstrada que quase as sentimos!!
- É uma história maravilhosa e com duas personagens principais incríveis, quase impossível não ficar "apaixonados" por elas...(quero ser amiga delas)
- Um livro escrito em (1952), mas poderia com toda certeza ser uma história dos dias de hoje.
- Foi um livro revolucionário para época e continua sendo... pois a felicidade de um casal do mesmo sexo continua a "incomodar" alguma gente ... infelizmente..
- Um livro escrito com delicadeza ímpar, a autora teve uma sensibilidade difícil de emcontrar em outros autores que tentam abordar o mesmo tema..
- Uma história realmente lindíssima e envolvente, que quebra preconceitos
e pode perfeitamente ser considerado um grande romance da história literária.
- Um livro delicado e contagiante.

This was one of those stories that stayed with me. I didn’t understand the first part of the story, it was so vague and felt distorted. It made a little more sense as the rest of the story unfolded, but I feel like I do have to reread to gain more clarity about the character’s inner dialogue.
