Hard to rate a book 5 stars, but this one is close because the writing is just so beautiful, thoughtful, poetic but not too flowery. Incredible descriptive language. Definitely skinny closeted lesbian vibes but it’s okay. Tension to the max. Looking someone in the eyes and knowing the same thing at the same time.

This felt like a three star book for me all the way until the very end, when it turned it around. Suspect I'd enjoy the film more, the dialogue here was too sparse for me to really make the characters feel believable.

I didn't really like Therese....! If I read this book when published in 1952, it would probably have blown my mind. It's 2016--I'm glad I read it. But, just found parts of it not very "real" and the dialogue between the two got old to me. Though I did buy their chemistry, I did not buy their love, and certainly not their happily ever after.
