This took me a while because of school and finals, but this book took me to a distant place as I read it! I loved the world-building and the magical aspect of everything. As a kid I was obsessed with ancient Egypt and wanted to be an Egyptologist for the longest time...so this book was a treat.

I love that while Inez is a head-strong FMC, she is still restrained by her societal place. She's clever and stubborn, but she isn't like most of the "girl boss" FMCs since she's a lady in high society. Whit was also an interesting sort of MMC. He had his quirks, and I hope we get to see much more of his inner thoughts in the next book. The plot was interesting and kept me on my toes as I read it. There were a few twists and turns that happened, but overall, it was an enjoyable read!

This book really impressed me. I was very excited by the “the mummy meets death of the Nile” promotion, but wasn’t expecting much from this book. However, I found myself gripped from the 2nd chapter. The writing was beautifully done and I love the Evie and Rick-esque main characters. I found the storyline interesting despite the main twist being quite predictable and I loved the setting of 1800s Egypt. The ending/cliff hanger definitely had me gripped and left me desperate for the next book… which unfortunately doesn’t come out for months!!
Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the book and am excited for the second one!
