A story about perseverance, churros, and Spanish culture, with a lesson about peace over aggression.

Wrench out my heart why don't you? Fabulously illustrated, sweet, and highly entertaining. If you ever suspected that churros (and dancing) could save the world, this one's for you.

Vibrant hues of golds and rich browns makes this story of a young Spanish girl who uses some creative thinking to best competitors in a bull fight come to life.

A great book to spark discussion about bullying. Literally!

This one would make a great read aloud for grades 2-4.

The illustrations, the individuality, the dance and the churros all add up to a delightful read. Thanks for making me smile and for giving me the joy to read this to the young folks in my life.

This book is utterly delightful! The aesthetic (and the story itself) felt entirely unique and fresh. I loved the color scheme, the humor, and the satisfying, sweet ending. Want to see more books like this!

Maria loves churros. More than anything in the world she loves churros. So there is the opportunity to fight the bull and win a lifetime supply of churros!!

Maria is told she isn't big enough or strong enough. But that doesn't stop her. She is determined to try. What I love is that Maria has a different approach to the bullfight than others do. It shows that in life, there are multiple ways of doing things and sometimes love conquers far more effectively.

There is a missed opportunity in this book I feel like. I wish that there was a churro recipe at the end of it. It would fit the book quite well!

A well-written story about Maria’s quest for more churros. To earn them, however, she has to take on a new challenge that she’s not sure she’s up to: fighting a bull as a matador. After watching multiple matadors be defeated by the bull, Maria takes a different approach and is rewarded with a new friend and a lifetime supply of churros. A fast-paced story with repetition, a fun ending, and a lesson in courage and doing things your own way.

An adorable little girl decides to enter a bull fight because the winning prize is churros for life, her most favorite dessert. She wins by not using violence. The illustrations are lush and gorgeous. Plus, Maria is motivated by dessert. What more does a person need from a book?
