A grim succession of tales dealing with the underbelly of Cairo, rural Egyptian life, and the travails of the struggling poor. Slightly uneven, but at best felt like a genuine insight into a culture and existence unfamiliar to me.

I received an ARC through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review!

Sadly, this collection was not for me. I read all the stories and I was able to get into none of them. Some were more interesting than others, but I wasn't impressed by it. It's definitely a time capsule, in a sense. I'm not sure when these stories were written, but I got tired of the sexism very, very quickly and basically every story was riddled with it in some way. Overall, not my type of stories but I'm glad I gave them a try.
