I HATED this sequel. I will give Mr. McCaig the benefit of the doubt in regard to his other works, but I felt this sequel to GWTW was sorely lacking a connection to the original story and characters. I was very dissappointed in this book, and actually threw it across the room when the author decided to burn down Tara. For fans of GWTW, read Scarlett, it's marginally better.

I read 100 pages and really tried to like this book but I didn't. The writing is boring and there are tons of new characters added that I don't care about. The author kept jumping around in the time line and it was hard to follow. I fear the other sequel to Gone With The Wind will be just as bad, but I still might check it out.
I know, I know, I read "Scarlett" too. I had to know more about Rhett. I found this book, for what it was -- essentially fanfiction to be highly satisfying. I would even read it again. Very good. Definitely better than Scarlett but not on the echelon as [b:Gone With The Wind|18405|Gone With The Wind|Margaret Mitchell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166913011s/18405.jpg|3358283].
Mr. McCaig:
Ashley had GRAY eyes, not brown.
Scarlett's waist is SEVENTEEN inches, not sixteen.
Have you even READ the damn book to which you wrote a companion? I'm thinking not. It just didn't ring true, somehow. Enjoyable, but not up to par. Thank you, try again.

Mi a bajom igazából a regénnyel? Ugyanakkor úgy érzem, valahogy továbbra se sikerült a huncut tekintete mögé belátnom.

I really enjoyed [b:Gone With the Wind|18405|Gone With The Wind|Margaret Mitchell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166913011s/18405.jpg|3358283] so when I heard of this new take on my beloved story I figured I'd take a shot and read it. Unlike most people, I didn't hate Scarlett so I was hoping to like this one as well. However I was very dissapointed.
The novel begins and you feel like you've been dropped into some odd fan fiction creation. There is barely any lead up to the story and where you are. Suddenly you are on the field with Rhett and that's that. The story more or less moves along in a chronological order from before Rhett met Scarlett to about a year or so after he leaves her in GWTW. The story is told from various point of views and I think that's the ultimate downfall of this novel. The readers already know what Scarlett thought and did - why did we have to revisit her pov? I would have rather stayed mainly with Rhett and perhaps two other vital people. I did enjoy having Melanie's pov however I feel that this author did a disservice to her character towards the end.
The other downfall in this novel is the fact that it completely skips over major storylines from GWTW. The most glaring would be Bonnie Blue's death. Her death and Rhett's sorrow is mentioned in passing in a letter from Melanie to Rhett's sister Rosemary but that's about it. That is a huge turning point for Rhett in GWTW and his character and I can't imagine why this author felt that it didn't need to be explored from Rhett's eyes.
Finally the fluidity in this novel is just not there. There are so many fits and starts to this novel it will make your head spin. There's not much of a rhyme or reason to a lot that is going on.
For the avid GWTW fan this is sure to dissapoint, even more than Scarlett. I don't really see much of a reason for any fan to read this novel I am sorry to say.

I wish it had been in cannon with the sequel written before...
My Curiosity has been satisfied by this prequel and sequel which also covers the same timeline as the original book, Gone with the Wind. I'm happy to have read it. I definitely have more appreciation for it after having just finished reading Gone with the Wind.
I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn't even finish it.
