Not terrible but a lot of conversation and not a lot of action until the last few chapters

A Haunting In Venice “Hallowe’en Party”

When a young girl is found murdered at a children’s Halloween party, Hercule Poirot is summoned to solve the mystery.

This book was one I challenged myself to read as I have never been very interested in mystery. The story was fun and fast paced and made for a great start to the fall season! I enjoyed how I was able to search for clues along with the story and I tried to guess who done it!

There are many points where I do feel that some of the conversations between some characters that I feel slow the book down. This does leave the reader with a chance to hunt for extra clues or to remind them of information that may have been forgotten earlier.

All in all this was a fun read and I encourage you to try and guess the ending!

It wasn’t my favorite Agatha Christie, unfortunately. I found a lot of the investigation boring and repetitive, and there was hardly any Halloween at all. :( There is also just so much “back in my day, people weren’t committing so many crimes”, which was particularly grating.

This Hercule Poirot mystery is considered one of Christie's lesser offerings.  However, I enjoyed it.  I look forward to seeing how "A Haunting in Venice" has adapted it.  This book is set in the English countryside, so the move to Venice will be interesting.

According to experts (aka my friends who have read multiple Poirots), I should have started with a better Agatha Christie novel. I agree. I didn't haaaate this... it was just a bit of a slog. I wish Poirot had talked less, and done more.
