Stephen King continues to receive my deep respect. An author that could easily show up in the aisle at the local grocery store with Nora Roberts wowed me with this novel. And I don't read grocery store novels. It took me so long to read it because I read it outloud to my husband. Not a horror fan, I haven't read all of Stephen King. But really? This author held my interest for 850 pages of READING ALOUD. His language has always been rich. His plotlines, flawless. His ability to write true characters, explicit. As I read some of the last scenes out loud, I actually choked up. I found myself so invested in the characters of this novel, my voice broke as I heard the end of these characters' stories. No spoilers. But this book incledes a real love story interwoven with a man's incredible connection to his calling steeped in historical (fiction). A recent enough historical event that we can all be invested in drove the story forward. But it was King's ability to make his readers invested in the characters involved...not historical figures...but ones like you and me that sold this story for me. Most likely, this will be my favorite fiction read of 2015.

I think this book should have counted for at least 3 on my goodreads challenge! First King book I've read in at least 15 years and it was so good - took me awhile to get through but only bc it was so long
