SWOONING. I am swooning. Just a few very specific things that ripped my heart out in this book in the best possible way:
- The sparkly purple unicorn cake
- The jacket
- Rooftops/balconies
- The closet
- Confession box
- 7 minutes
- The DONC
I am OBSESSED with this book, with this, with Nick, with Emilie. I’m not going to lie, when I first picked this up I was a little nervous about the whole loop-day thing, but this was so well done. It never felt like the story was dragging because of Emilie’s multiple valentines days, but also never felt rushed.
In some ways it reminded me a bit of Today, Tonight, Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Soloman, specifically with how much of the book takes place in one singular day. I feel as if most books with such a short period feel either under developed or rushed but this was amazing.
I loved getting to learn why Nick acted the way he did and seeing different sides of her personality on each Valentine’s Day. I loved Emilie learning how to speak up for herself and stop living to please everyone else. I loved how the two of them related to loneliness but in two different ways.
One quote in particular that stood out greatly to me was “I had no idea what I was doing, but I kissed the tip of his nose. Because this wasn’t about boys and girls and love and attraction, this was about a human soul needing to feel seen.”
My heart broke for both characters so many times, and I squealed with joy from the oh so romantic fluff throughout the entire book.
I also particularly love how she didn’t have to have the “perfect” Valentine’s Day to break out of the time loop - she simply had to stand up for herself and stop living for the pleasure of others. I thought that that message way just as strong as the romance between Nick and Emilie, and provided a lot of really strong character development.
This was a super quick, super adorable, and surprising read and I’m SO HAPPY I was drawn to the cute blue spray painted edges on the Barnes and Noble special edition (I know judging a book by its cover isn’t the best move but hey it worked quite well here). I will be reading more books by Lynn Painter, this was so fun.
The playlist at the end of the book and Nicks bonus chapters were also a fun plus too!
