I guess there is a pretty good reason for zarza to be so angry at humans, he had a herd, he also had a little girl that loved him and cared for him but he lost them both.
Jessie is amazing she got close to him, and her speech that it does not matter if there is no soul is just beautiful.
Marguerite did an amazing job on how other religions view animals and what they say about them having souls or not, it felt pretty accurate according to my humble knowledge of other religions and of my former religion as well.
