I can't believe this book only takes place in less than a month. So many things are getting flipped on their heads. You could really tell from the beginning of the series that something was up with Nick, I'm glad that we find out what is going on even though it pretty much goes back and forth. Finally it's revealed in the end what he really is (possibly) and things are happy, maybe. I dunno. There seemed to be more Greer point of view chapters in this one which is nice. You don't get her too often in the first book so it's good to see her development.

It's good to see so much development from all three girls, though Grace doesn't seem to change all that much but Gretchen and Greer do have the most transformations. Plus, Gretchen changes in the matter of like twenty pages which was really nice to see. The three girls bring the best out of each other which is great.

The story is progressing nicely, it doesn't seem like this is going to be able to be contained in a trilogy. Especially since we still have Thane's history since obviously he does have some involvement going on. I wouldn't be surprised that he's involved in the war some how.

Why do we have to wait until next year to get the finale? I've waited long enough!

From my blog Auntie Spinelli Reads

While the first book was good, I believe I enjoyed this one much more! It didn't have a real lot of depth, but it was a cute and fun read.

The fact that there are THREE changing points of view in this one really makes me appreciate Tera's writing style. A few times I forgot momentarily who I was reading, but for the most part it was very well done. The voices were quite similar, but each of the girls had distinct personalities.

Gretchen was probably my favorite. She's a kick-ass, no-nonsense kind of girl that knows how to fight. And did I mention she has super strength?
I liked Greer immensely more than I did in the first book. In Sweet Venom, she was a bit of an cold, snobby bitch. But we finally got to see a crack in her cool facade.
Grace was a lot better, too. She wasn't as much of a doormat, finally learning to speak up for herself. She even asked her crush out on a date. Go Grace!

And what a fabulous portrayal of sisterhood! The bond that the girls shared strengthened more and more throughout the story. They protected and supported each other, and when one of them went missing the other two did everything possible to get her back. The relationship development here was marvelous!

I love the mythology aspect of this series. The idea of the Key Generation and the girls being descendants of Medusa were fabulous! Also, I can't wait to see what secret Thane is hiding, because there was obviously more to him than meets the eye.
The ending...gaaahhhhh. Why Tera, whhyyyyyyy?!?! Sweet Legacy doesn't even have a publication date... *glare* The series has improved vastly in just one book, and I'm looking forward to the final installment!

Ok, wow! I hate that there are only three books in this series. I hate the next book having to be the final book. I have come to love the sisters and i'm deep into this story. This is so amazing, my mind is exploding with stuff, but I still wish the Gods make an appearance. I would so gladly slay monsters if only I don't have to taste them.

Well at least it wasn't a cliff hanger ending - like a killer one! I really wanna know wassup with Thane and if Greer and him get together ;) Also! When Niko made the origami of a unicorn RIGHT AFTER GRETCHEN ENCOUNTERED ONE!!! Call me crazy, but there is def. a damn connection between that :x

I can't wait for Sweet Legacy to come out! So excited! Love this trilogy, it's different and reminds me a LOT of Charmed (with being in SF and dealing with evil creatures and all hehe).

Sweet Shadows takes off directly after Sweet Venom. Unlike Sweet Venom, I actually enjoyed reading this from the beginning. Everything is more intense here than the first book. I still like the monster-fighting scenes, btw. As expected, the book is written in Grace, Greer and Gretchen POVs. Their voices are clear and different – I could easily recognize them. And Nick, who I thought was very annoying and too persistent in the first book, grew on me and I started to like him. Though the fact that he plays important role in this series is predictable since the first book.

There’s more romance in this book. I’m fine with Gretchen and Nick pairing. I’m slightly okay with Grace and Milo pairing. Though I have to admit that I felt Grace is trying to be not herself, pretending to act cool and so on when she’s with Milo since the first book.

And there’s Thane. I fell in love with his character instantly when he first appears in Sweet Venom. I mean, who doesn't love mysterious boys? I really want to know more about him! He doesn't get much scenes in this book, but I’m sure he will get a lot more in the third book.

Well, I love this book very much but why I give this book 4 rating instead of 5? The reason is because I felt that something is missing in this book. But I’m not sure what. I just felt it bugging me after I finished reading this book.

Overall, Sweet Shadows is full of action, mysteries to unravel and if you like Percy Jackson series or Tera Lynn Childs’s Oh.My.Gods series, then maybe this is the right book for you!

This book was sort of all over the place. The girls training to fight was a lot of what this book was about and it got pretty boring.

REVIEW: http://theliteraturelion.blogspot.com/2013/01/review-sweet-shadows-by-tera-lynn-childs.html

Gretchen, Greer, and Grace just found out they're triplets and all descendants from Medusa. They're the Key Generation, and some people want them to seal the gate to the abyss, while others want them to keep it open. And now there's someone who wants them dead. Gretchen consults in Nick, a boy who seems to know more than he is letting on; Greer tries to maintain her normal life while still being a proficient beastie-killer; and Grace is trying to have a normal relationship with Milo, even though she has no clue where her brother Thane is. Let's just say, they're lives are kind of a mess.

Of course, these girls are awesome. Truthfully, their all the girls I wish I could be. The only word to describe Gretchen is kick-ass. She knows how to stand up to a beastie and take them down. She's the strongest combat-wise in the novel. She's pretty sweet. Then there's Greer, who I find myself relating with. I tend to put up that wall, and not many people see me falter. Of course, I'm not as bitchy as her, but I know how to stand with my head high. Then there's sweet Grace, who is better with computers than with monsters. She's also the mediator, seeing as her sisters can both get hot-headed. I found myself easily relating to all of these girls!

For the romantic interests, there were quite a few twists and turns. It was predictable what was happening between Greer and her boyfriend, but he was a jerk. Then Gretchen and Nick, that was all WOAHHHH. I'm excited to see what happens with this couple. This was all over the place, but it a completely good way! Then there's Grace and Milo, and honestly, that's going to be hard to happen... Then there's the mystery card of Thane. No one knows what is going on with him, but Greer seems pretty curious about him. Maybe there's a way those two could end up together...? All I know is I can't wait to see what happens with Thane. Since the first novel we've been curious of him, but we won't figure him out until the third novel. My bet is that he is actually a god of some sort. I sure hope he's not Thanatos or anything, like his name suggests. I"m not sure where Childs is going with this, but I'm anxious to see!

I wish there would have been a bit more kick-ass beastie action. There was probably only two fight scenes between the girls and a monster...? I was hoping in this book that there would have been a little more. Regardless, I started to feel sorry for the monsters as a result of Gretchen going down into the abyss and learning more about them. I'm sure it makes the girls situation even more difficult.

This plot was INTENSE! I really loved with Childs went with this novel, and I'm glad it didn't fall into the sequel-trap. I CANNOT wait for Sweet Legacy! Come on, September! Come a little faster! :)
