“…whether he stayed or left, whether they walked the same path or not. They could live on opposite sides of the world, and she would still be his.”

this was a perfectly decent okay book. it wasn’t mind blowing but it certainly wasn’t dull. i thoroughly enjoyed watching the sizzling chemistry between amelia and cam  play out. watching the Hot Mess that is the hathaway family get into all sorts of hijinks was amusing. although i didn’t *love* this book i’m most definitely going to check out the rest of lisa kleypas book and continue on with the series.

thank goodness the next book in the hathaway series is about merripen and win. the chokehold these two have on me is insane 🥰 while i do love slowburn i need them to hurry up and get together already because the anticipation is killing me. poppy and beatrix are so weird but lovable so i’m curious to see who they end up with…and i’m even more curious to see who is paired up with leo.

anywho, 3.25/5 ⭐️’s! i’m knocking off a few stars because i wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing in certain scenes nor did i like how certain characters were handled. still, mine till midnight was a solid, fun, and steamy (very steamy 🥴) historical romance. it’s one of those “leave your brain cells at the door” kind of books

Any man," she muttered, "who wanted to marry into the Hathaway family after this should be shut away in an institution."

"Marriage is an institution," he said.

Tropes:

  • uptight heroine/super chill hero
  • major opposites attract
  • hero pursues heroine hardcore (heroine is the one with trust/commitment issues)
  • kind of marriage of convenience
  • self-made man
  • rich hero
  • strong family component
  • pretty secluded (not really any parties or the ton in the book)

I just have to mention how much I loved how Cam was with Amelia. Their dynamic was so interesting and requires a lot of trust. I loved seeing how she let him take control when she's a control freak and he was always so gentle with her. They had banter but he was very good at allowing her to be in control while also taking control from her if that makes sense. You could just tell she was comfortable around him emotionally and he never took advantage of that once and I loved it. I also have commitment issues like Amelia and like my independence but Cam pursued her relentlessly. I loved it. I'm also dying to get my hands on Merripen and Win's book because I just know Merripen will bring all the angst and Win reminds me of Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice through how kind-hearted she is. I love their relationship already.

I really loved this one! It was so sweet and lovely and I honestly loved Amelia and Cam together. I’ve also discovered I really enjoy the trope of “strong independent woman holds the world upon her shoulders and man who just wants to shower her with love and support and carry her burdens” it’s a solid trope. Cam just desperately wanted to take care of Amelia and her family and I loved that about him.
