i love how whimsical it was. it instantly pulled me in. this magic...all this unbelievable beauty...it was exactly what i needed. wasn’t expecting to sob at the end but i guess there’s always a price to pay for something so wistful.
gosh...i just love her writing style so much. she has such a wonderful way with words...reading her sentences is less like reading and more like immersing my head in this wonderful stream of words. it feels like liquid.
i love the world it opened up in my mind. my admiration for this story has less to do with plot, or even character, and more to do with the pictures it painted in my thoughts. it had been so long since i read a fiction book and yet i fell into this one so wholly. it was wonderful to feel so much delight and emotion and whimsy because of a book again. it’s been so long...
thank you so very much, laini taylor. i’m anxiously awaiting the next instalment.
i have a feeling i’ll still like this one the most though. i know people often get bored or put off by nothing happenig in novels but for me...i love it. give me hundreds of pages of a hobbit walking through a forest and i’m sold. i love it when it’s descriptive and ethereal and languorous. i love seeing a whole new realm open up in front of me. i want to savour each little word. i don’t need action...i just need whimsy. i’m very easily pleased in that way. and laini taylor...her descriptions are simply some of the best.

I enjoyed this book WAY more than I thought I would. The writing was beautiful and the world building and mythology was intriguing. I loved how Laini Taylor gave so much depth to all of the characters, including our antagonists, which I feel like some authors forget about (our villains need love too). I can't wait to read Muse of Nightmares!

"Beautiful and full of monsters?"
"All the best stories are."
THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST STORIES!! It really felt like a story. It was very imaginative. Laini Taylor got really creative with this book and it blew my mind. It's a book thats low on action and violence but is full of magic and mystery and beauty. It's SO beautifully written! There's a fairytale quality to her lyrical writing that makes it feel like your in a dream. She's that good.
The plot wasn't too intense, yet I was never bored. It was really character driven, which worked really well because all the characters were so detailed and had strong character development. And of course the world-building was top-tier. Everything from the characters to the world itself was so rich with beauty.
