Strange the Dreamer

Another amazing book from Lainie Taylor. This contribution creates a quite different world and people to her previous wonderful series. It is imaginative and engaging and intriguing and well written!

The hero - Strange - is wonderful - he'd be called a computer nerd in a contemporary novel, but his thing is books and in particular fairy stories and tales of the past. This luckily stands him in good stead when the going gets interesting for him.

...and of course it does get interesting and the challenge really allows home to grow and show his goodness and ability.

Highly recommended read. The worst part of finishing this is that I now have a year or so wait for the next installment. Damn.

And this is why irony can be so powerful. This was pretty good. Especially for it being YA. But the magic was pretty cool, the world was great. Feel like some parts could have been trimmed and the story would have been better for it. Pretty solid though!

This book is just too long. There is good writing here, and beautifully wrought mysteries. But the book just drags on, never solving any of them. I preservered because I did want answers, only to find that it doesn't answer any questions and ends on a cliffhanger. I already knew I didn't want to read the sequel long before I got to that ending, and now I regret pushing through to the end.

You know what the first 60 pages made me think this book wasn’t for me but I was wrong! I loved it- the incredibly description poetic writing style took a while for me to get into but after around 100 pages I was hooked and couldn’t wait to find out more answers of the mystery of Weep!

This isn't exactly a good book, but it's extremely compelling. It's a fable, almost but not quite, and it's got some great imagery, but the writing was just okay, and the quality got a little worse as it went along. But I liked it, and I would recommend it, even though I don't know quite why.

A very intriguing book that blends fantasy scifi and mythology in an interesting way.

This book was great. I loved every word. The world and mythology were very well thought out. It is clear Laini Taylor is great at lyrical, magical writing.
