I don’t believe I’ve ever read a book and wanted to finish it/wanted it not to end so badly at the same time before. I was immediately hooked from page one. I love how unpredictable it was and the gorgeous details of Lazlo’s imagination. I can’t wait to grab Muse of Nightmares and continue my journey.
What more compliments can I give this book other than that it is a true Laini Taylor book?
The plot: as intricate and flowing as a reader could hope for.
The characters: great backstory and so distinct and true to themselves.
And the language: exquisite, moving, gorgeous. I honestly don't know how she does it but Laini Taylor seems to conger up words that you wouldn't ever be able to dream up in your head but make so much sense on the page adding even more depth to all of the things previously mentioned above. Her writing makes me so glad to be a reader so that I can absolutely immerse myself within the breathtaking worlds that she creates.
Dream on Laini Taylor.

I loved this book right up until the ending. Mostly because it didn't end. It could've been much more powerful with sacrifice instead of what happened, and there's only one way to end it without becoming ridiculously idealistic. It feels like by putting "to be continued" at the end she's delaying the inevitable and it's irritating in a book that otherwise could've gotten 5 stars.
This book took my breath away. The story was mesmerizing and the characters easy to love. But more than that, there was Depth. The story, the characters, the word choices, the phrases turned...layers under layers under layers. I’m planning to reread it, and am sure I’ll see even more now that I know what happens.
The highest accolade I can give is: this book is very well written.
Where is book 2?

This book should spawn an entire new genre of fantasy.
Richly imagined, with decadent, lyrical prose and a swift, taut plot.
I read slowly to savor, but I wanted to devour this book whole.

I liked the idea behind this book but something just fell flat for me and I'm not sure what. I'll read the second book so I can completed the duology but I don't feel the need or real want to read it. This story should be a slam dunk with the characters, plot, even the slower pace. There's just something missing that I can't place.
