This book was very different than what I remembered 😭 Amazing characters and worldbuilding that were flattened halfway through by an instant romance that was weird and frankly unnecessary 😭

Watch me reread book 2 because of sunk cost and I want the lore

What a spellbounding novel! The words captivate you from the very first page, and as you follow the characters adventures you cannot help but dream along with them.

You ever read a book and wanna curl up on the floor and never move again? It's like that.

This book ends on a terrible cliffhanger, and if I hate the second book, I will have to downgrade my rating. But as the first half of a story, it's great. It was a bit of a slow start for me, not because nothing was happening, but because I couldn't figure out what was going on. Once I started getting the rhythm of the story, though (around the time Lazlo reaches the library), I was hooked. I have seen other reviews saying that these take place in the same universe as the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, and if they're as good as this, I'll have to finally read them.
