I'm fairly sure someone described this book as whimsical. Whimsical to me is light-hearted. So can someone explain to me why I am now emotionally DEVASTATED?! My god what an ending! It's a good job I have the next book already or there's a chance I'd go insane before getting it.
I loved the story, there was enough to keep you entertained as you learned about the characters. There were also little tidbits dropped in to make you think of why and how things have happened. I'm looking forward to finding out more.
The characters, the CHARACTERS! This author can write some amazing characters. How she can take someone who is being a bit of a insert rude word here and make you feel for them and like them is beyond me. I'm so invested in all of the characters and I'm very tense that there won't be a happy ending.
Speaking of ending, what a way to end a book. I had to put my kindle down to scream into the ether a few times near the end.
I can't wait to read the next book!

Accidenti che libro e che finale!
Questo romanzo è davvero una piccola gemma, sono veramente contenta di averlo finalmente letto!
La storia di Lazlo Strange, un bibliotecario pieno di sogni e con una spiccata ossessione per la perduta città di Pianto, è davvero magnifica, avventurosa e magica. Onirica potrei dire
Non parlo della trama perchè sono convinta sia tutta da scoprire, ma è stato tutto ben costruito e interessante. Lazlo è un personaggio a cui mi sono moltissimo affezionata, così come Sarai. Sono entrambi estremamente veri e credibili.Anche tutti gli altri personaggi sono costruiti in maniera ottima e li ho apprezzati tutti, chi in maniera positiva chi negativa, e sono sicura che abbiano tutti ancora molto da offrire. Il mondo creato e il sistema magico sono interessanti e unici ho trovato tutto molto originale, lo stile di scrittura poi è sublime. Non é tra i libri più scorrevoli che abbia mai letto ma sicuramente uno di quelli scritti meglio. L'analisi interiote dei personaggi, come tutto ciò che riguardj l'interiorità sia complesso l'ho trovato molto convincente, non ci sono mai divisioni nette tra bene e male e lo studio della psiche umana sul sottile limite che divide sentimenti opposti è molto presente e ben fatto.
La storia d'amore è presente e importante però non è frettolosa nel senso che non si sviluppa immediatamente però può essere considerata un filino instalove forse. Però non del genere fastidioso o inreale, c'è un lungo percorso di conoscenza e di sviluppo. Personalmente sto ancora cercando di capire quali sono e come sono strutturate le storie d'amore che mi piacciono, ma questo è sicuramente una molto positiva.
l'unica critica che posso fare è che il sistema magico è abbastanza complesso, ci sono tanti personaggi e nomi particolari e quindj soprattutto all'inizio si fa un pò di difficoltà a ricordare tutto quanto, però è una piccola pecca che secondo me con un glossario alla fine poteva essere risolto..
Nonostante questo, ho amato moltissimo questo libro e non vedo l'ora che esca il seguito in italiano per sapere come si conclude la storia, consiglio vivamente!

Such a lovely fantasy book w/ amazing world building and a unique n original story. I loved it!!! I can’t wait to read the second book.

The story started pretty slow but once you got into the meat of the plot it got much better! Some of the language was overly flowery, verging on pretentious at times, but again, once I got more used to the writing style it was easier to get through. My favorite part of the whole book was the ending, which was interesting and out-of-the-box and left me wanting more! The book leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but I think there will be another book (or two) so hopefully that will get more into the magic system and the politics of old!
