- had some issues with this in terms of how disabled ppl ( specifically physically disabled & those w deformities) were represented bc they tend to be visually embodying the depravity of stalin's purges 
- very interesting historically
- the main character is quite frustrating but also like sweet at times
- the history behind getting the ook published was rly interesting - the afterword was great to read.
- very interesting to read this having read requiem by akhmatova bc the poem where she says like if they ever make a statue of me put it outside the prison gates were i waited & they never let me in [ver much not verbatim] is also made extremely vivid in this book as sofia petrovna waits hour after hour, day after day.
