Over the last few years, I have become a fan of political thrillers filled with espionage, action, and suspense, and when I heard of the Clinton/Patterson collaboration, The President is Missing, listed as the #1 bestseller in the New York Times, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal, I couldn’t wait to read it.

Sooner or later, every president faces decisions in which the right choice is bad politics, at least in the short term. If the stakes are high, you have to do what you think is right and hope the political tide will turn. It’s the job you promised to do.

President Jonathan Lincoln Duncan, widower, father, and decorated Iraq War veteran, is preparing to testify in front of the House Select Committee against the wishes of his staff. The committee hopes to find sufficient evidence against him for impeachment, but President Duncan is more concerned about whether there will still be a country if an Internet virus called “Dark Ages” is activated.

The characters are well-developed and interesting as well as believable. President Duncan’s quick thinking is crucial for the fate of the country, for when his life is threatened, and for when he finds out a member of his national security team betrayed him. The antagonist and female assassin named Bach is mysterious but vulnerable and I like how her story is slowly uncovered to find out her part in the plot.

The threat of cyberterrorism is real which gives this story legitimacy and makes it well worth reading. The plot is inventive and the action intensifies throughout the book, culminating into a nail-biting finale. Clinton’s input on presidential decisions and the inner workings of the White House and Patterson’s action-packed mystery writing, give the plot many twists and turns that caught this reader off guard. Highly recommend.

What you expect with a James Patterson book but I forgot a lot of the time Bill Clinton authored it. I listened to it and enjoyed Dennis Quaid as the main narrator but felt like it was too slow. Nothing special or new happened in the book but it was good to do chores to.

1! Yeah...not happening! I am only like 7 chapters in and have read the words National Security WAY too many times! And any President playing "poor me" card...Yeesh! No thank you! James Patterson...so disappointing!

It took a few chapters to really get into the book, which is understandable as they had to set the narrative.

Once I got into the action I could not put the book down. I am usually a slow reader, who will read a couple of chapters every night before going to sleep, I ended up reading 3/4 of the book in one day, only breaking for food.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether you like politics or not, it's thrilling read that takes you on a journey and it's written in such a way that you feel transported into the middle of all the action.

Another great thing about this book is it's co-written by a former president, so you feel the secret service aspects of it and the protocols are pretty accurate, which makes it an even more thrilling adventure.

You should go buy and read this book as soon as you can!

A fast paced political thriller that sits pretty close to the world we live in today. You could see all of the things that happen in it occurring in reality.....but hopefully not.....
