Very tedious, and the characters are very one dimensional. Nothing about this story is gripping. I am a huge fan of detective and mystery literature of the 1920’s and 1930’s, and this one was just clunky and plodding. I had guessed the murderer at the 2/3 mark, as compared to Dorothy Sayers or Agatha Christie where I am mostly left guessing (and on the edge of my seat) until the big reveal. Disappointed!

Decentish plot spoilt by horrible casual racism. I was mostly enjoying it up until the end.

First in series
Audiobook (All of my entries on The Story Graph are audiobooks.)
Why I added this book to my TBR pile: I was looking for something from the 1920's and this was published in 1929.
Will I read more of the series?Probably Not Maybe Likely Most Likely Definitely It was a long book. I had to listen to the last 4 hours on 1.2 speed. It was a solid story, but I'm not sure if I have the patience to follow this series.
The narrator was Robert Fass. Good reading. I don't think I've listened to him before.

Found it to be a tad long, but luckily the length was filled with continuous investigation instead of just random plot stuffing. Not as good as Agatha Christie, but a good alternative.

The very first Ellery Queen novel and one of the very best.
