So I really loved the premise of this story and the two stories interconnected at the end. This book is very gross, graphic and gory.

I very much hated all the rape and food fetish stuff but everyone in this book is terrible

I loved the book, even though it brought to mind the 2008 film The Happening! I thought the twist was extremely nicely done, and I loved how the past and present were combined!

This book somewhat disappointed me. I loved Gone to see the River Man and I was excited to read more by this author. I found this book to be somewhat slow and it really didn’t get into the disease aspect fast enough for me. Then, when things started picking up, we get two different story lines that are completely different from each other and feel like two separate stories combined into one. I know the ending explains it all but I would’ve rather had the apocalypse/disease story or the pig farm story. Not both combined. It felt so jarring switching from one to the other, and I felt they didn’t blend well at all. I didn’t like that the majority of the story took place in the apartment and also that every single character was disgusting, bland, or unlikable. There wasn’t a single character I really enjoyed. Don’t get me wrong, I adore complex and morally grey characters, but I just could not find myself caring for any of them. I thought the sex scenes took away too much from both stories and I really just wanted more focus on the disease and the people and the breakdown of character and morals. Instead it felt like a bunch of different scenes were just stuck together instead of flowing well. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. It needed something. I don’t know what, but it needed something more or something different. The message at the end seemed a little muddled or as if the author is trying to fit in too many messages. Maybe I’m missing something, I don’t know.

On the bright side the disease was unique and the pig farm story was interesting as well. I wasn’t expecting the ending which is also a plus. The writing style was good and eloquent and I do enjoy Triana’s style. I will read more by him as there are a few more books that are intriguing to me, and I loved Gone to See the River Man, but this one was a hard let down for me.

This is the longest spaltterpunk novel that I've read and I'm not sure if more of the plot element worked for me in reading this specific genre. I think this would have done super well as a novella. It still wasn't bad, just a bit drawn out feeling despite being fast paced.

I liked the two storylines going on here. Although I figured what their connection probably was, I felt like the reveal in the end could’ve been executed better. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this overall & I loved that last line.
