This was the best book in the series (so far), because it gave us a unique plot, the badass and smart FMC, and the complicated Sikthand. Sikthand’s bitter and angry because his ex found a way to fake mating recognition in him. Sophia helped her friends escape and is now a hostage of Sikthand. Eventually, both realize that a political alliance could be mutually beneficial, and they seek to find a way forward for humans and Clecanians in light of the Queen’s death and the changing political landscape.

I've read this entire series now, including the smaller novella with Maladek & Katie. prior to this, I haven't read much alien romance (of the "earth woman is abducted" kind), truth be told. I'm pretty sure the only book like that which I've read was the first Ice Planet Barbarians book (if I've read other alien books then they clearly didn't leave enough of an impression for me to even remember doing so). I like the premise of this genre but I am weary of most of the books that fit this bill because I don't really like "insta love" stories, or stories where the captive fmc don't react appropriately to their predicament (e.g. they get over it way too quickly and/or they act way too badass and strong, unrealistically so). anyway, all that to say: I was looking for a fun, easy read that had some tropes and kinks that are personal favourites, so I gave "Choosing Theo" a chance and enjoyed it well enough. I decided to read all the subsequent books and have remained pleasantly entertained. the author has managed to craft separate and unique narratives of how each couple get together, with some constant elements (mating recognition, purring, mating instincts, etc.), but without any of it feeling repetitive. collectively, I'd rate every book that preceded "Ruling Sikthand" a solid 3⭐️ (closer to a 4 than a 2). Of books #1-#6 (including #5.5), the one I liked best was #1, and the one I liked least was actually #6. so where does that leave "Ruling Sikthand"? after feeling like #6 was a bit lacklustre (mostly I just didn't quite vibe with Meg, even though I've found every other fmc quite likeable), I wasn't sure what to expect of #7 and thought maybe it would be just as disappointing and that the series was just getting 'played out'. so... I'm very happy to say I was wrong. I really loved this book. I'm certain it will be added to my shelf of "comfort reads" (books that I turn to when I want to read something I'm sure will improve my mood and will be a satisfying re-read). Sikthand was probably the most fleshed out and nuanced mmc in this series, in my opinion, and Sophia was a very easy fmc to empathise with and root for. I think this was the book with the most character development and depth. their budding relationship was very captivating, and I felt rewarded every time it progressed deeper. I just feel like this was such a charming read. I look forward to any future entries in this series, if there ever are any.

5/5 Stars !!!!!
I just loved reading this so much. Totally enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience (only for a hot sex though), and a total slowburn. And TATTOOS!!!!
Slow burn until the last 30 pages goddamn. It was worth every second though because the pace of the book made it feel like it was more than 381 pages.
I can't wait until the next one.
