I will admit that I was feeling a bit unsure about this one going in. Typically, I get bored and annoyed with books centered around royalty and politics. However, this was a solid 4.5 for me!

This gave me so many Beauty and the Beast type of vibes.

King Sikthand is cold, closed off, and brooding. He keeps Sophia as a captive for political reasons. He is drawn to her and while he is a bit verbally cruel to her he stalks her and watches everything she does. He has a rough past so his he doesn't trust anyone and is paranoid.
Sophia is trying to find her place as well as help humans going forward. She is also drawn to Sikthand and can't deny the pull.
This is a Sloooooooooow burn. Very slow. The tension is there though and the payoff is worth it.

I was legit swooning for Sikthand throughout the entire book. His words could be cold, but his actions were so very thoughtful and sweet. I mean, this man pines and yearns for Sophia the entire time but forces himself to stay away from her as much as possible. The best part of this book was Victoria getting back to her strong men that silently love and the small things they do for the women they are falling for while thinking they don't really deserve or need them.

The politics were not so bad - kind of the "typical" when it comes to stories with royalty. Someone wanting to kill the current king and the mystery surrounding the attempts so they can be stopped.

This one was just so good. I adore Sikthand, truly and completely.

The tropes:
Fated mates
Enemies to lovers
Arranged marriage
Captor/captive
Stalker, damaged, hero
Slow burn with great steamy pay off
Forced proximity
Tattoos, masks, tails, fangs

This series continues to hit the spot and the overarching political plot is fascinating

VICTORIAL AVELINE YOU DID IT AGAIN.

I'm usually so averse to series, but this world just has me hooked. I've got a soft spot for stories about broken people learning to love, and this story really delivered on that front. Sikthand was such an interesting character, and I loved getting to see how his city worked. This series is so good!!!!

This book was absolutely incredible. Thank you so much Victoria for the arc!!! You should be so proud of yourself for this one!!

This is absolutely my favorite in the series. What a slow burn, wow!!!! I don’t know who I fell in love with more, Sophia or Sikthand?! They were both such incredible characters.

The pining and angst were delicious!!!!

THE WORLD BUILDING!!! Wow I am loving where this story is going.

Victoria managed to write the perfect book with this one, I am convinced.
