Another great entry into this series! I can’t believe it’s book seven of the Clecanians but I’m so glad it doesn’t appear to be near over.

Here we have a class captive romance with a sci-fi twist. We follow our FMC Sophia as she finds her feet in this new city with a grumpy King by her side. I really enjoyed her narrative with her sassy yet awkward comments.

My one complaint here is the pacing. I feel this didn’t need to be 400+ plus and the continua political talk made this a hard one to read quickly.

However when our main characters FINALLY got together - it felt worth it.

And my love for the Clecanian universe continues. I enjoyed this book a lot, Sophia is a level-headed and smart FMC that's easy to root for and my poor bby paranoid Sikthand 🥹.  Their relationship development was so cute.

I ate this one up! Royalty, aliens, impending war and assassins. Absolutely a dream

He watched her so often, he was surprised he hadn't been assassinated out of sheer obliviousness.

His helmet muffled his growl. He didn't want her to come speak to him because he so desperately wanted her to come speak to him.

He kept his expression stony whenever she was around, not allowing any of his internal mooning to show on his face.

Don't do this to me, little wife. His control was already threadbare without the added pressure of her behaving as if she didn't want to part from him.

What are you doing to me, my love?

Sophia never thought she was unlucky until she was kidnapped by aliens. Twice...

When Sophia and Sikthand realize how far their enemies are willing to go to grab galactic power, they’re forced into an unlikely alliance—and possibly a marriage of convenience—to protect their people.

A human on an alien planet? Check. Difficult politics? Check. Handsome alien king? Check. Tails? Double check.

I don't have many points to my checklist when I scramble around in the dark, looking for my next big hit of grumbly alpha holes, more possessive than the last one. And this hit the nail on the head.

Sophia is a resilient, and fiercely independent woman. She's been plucked from Earth without her knowledge, thrust into a volatile and political alien world, but she refuses to cower, Sophia isn’t a pawn.

The King Sikthand on the other hand, one look, and the entire man is down for the count. His tail basically wags when Sophia enters the room, he was doomed from the start, poor little King. He purrs, like a less violent diesel engine, he's one big cat. And I love him.

Sophia didn’t plan to rule a planet, but Sikthand wasn’t ready for her fire.

I read the first two books in the series but the world-building and over-arching plot have gotten sooooo good since then. Sophia is captured at the tail-end (pun intended) of their tour to Vrultica, the vertical city of metalsmiths. The king Sikthand is kind of not really keeping her hostage. We get to hear his perspective and there is some serious yearning and pining that are just perfect!! His guild suggest they get married so that she can make a safe space for humans who might come to this world. She agrees and he’s mad cos he can’t stay away from her 😍
