"I know now that some people feel unhappiness the way others love; privately, intensely and without recourse"

Excellent. So glad as I loved the other books and hoped he'd keep them coming .

Agree with several other reviewers who noted this novel read more like a collection of short stories, with vague interconnection. The beginning is wonderful, and really draws the reader in. But there are too many characters and by the end, I felt myself relieved. Author is a great writer, Very poetic, but this pale in comparison, for me, to his other work, the kite runner. This was difficult to review, because he is such an excellent writer, but my interest in the characters and plot varied so widely that it was a bit of a challenge. I hope to read 1000 splendid suns for a comparison.

Felt like several different stories as it followed different generations.  Hard to keep track of characters.  Loved the first 1/4 of the book, then lost interest.

Loved this book, it was really beautiful and sad, but left me with lots to reflect and think about. Only criticism is in how Hosseini initially hooked me on the storyline of Pari and Abdullah, which the synopsis suggests the book is mostlu about. But then got into a plethora of other storylines which I realize do cross over, however I would have enjoyed more story time about the siblings and less space taken up by the other characters. But still beautiful stories within the story.

I found a sad little fairy
Beneath the shade of a paper tree.

I know a sad little fairy
Who was blown away by the wind one night.

Once again, Khaled Hosseini has written a very powerful, emotionally impactful novel, this one tracing the paths of two siblings who were separated one day in 1952 and the many, many different people who connected them, entire families part of the story of Pari and Abdullah. The kind of novel that had me staying up late on several nights, wanting to read more.

Beautifully written allowing anyone who has no prior knowledge of Afghanistan and its wonderful culture to be immersed  in it's people's trials and tribulations in the last 80 years.
