Amazing. Amazing but traumatizing. Do not read this if you are in a low sort of mood.

Well, that was... haunting.

I had to read this book before I watch the movie again. I know this is more of an older children’s book, but it hits differently as an adult. And very scary that it is relatable today in America based on the ignorance, complacency, and propaganda. Can’t wait to read the second part!
I am torn on how I feel about this book. Above all it's very sad as everything during World War 2 was! I think it's a really interesting perspective to read from because it's told in the perspective of a 9-10 year old boy who's father is a commander under Hitler. Bruno is very ignorant to what is going on around him along with what his father is doing. A lot of that is from being a child. His World revolves around him as it does for everyone at that age and he assumes everyone's World is the same as his. This is what I chalk a lot of his ignorance to, however some of it is just over the top. There's no way a ten year old wouldn't pick up on the fact after he watched a soldier shoot a dog for barking, after he sees how terrified Schmuel is at having been caught by said soldier, and hearing the soldier saying that basically he's gonna to show him what theives get, and after a week of not seeing his friend, Schmuel's face is covered in bruises, there's no way a ten year old doesn't connect those dots. There's no way a ten year old then asks the boy oh did you fall off your bike??? No way. So I think maybe he was just a little too ignorant. Otherwise I'm glad I read the book of a movie I really liked, even if it made me cry every time.
