This was so heartfelt, and it is a book I'm happy to have finally gotten to. It devastates me to know that all the events in this book aren't simply fiction. That people actually treated other people like that, and still do in some cases. I'm forced to face this ugly truth, once again: Humans are excruciatingly selfish and cruel. My only source of solace in these times is to also know that not all people are like that.
I loved this book.
I was slightly off-put at times by how much John Boyne seemed to underestimate children intelligence, but other than that, it was a truly beautiful experience.

"What exactly was the difference? he wondered to himself. And who decided which people wore the striped pajamas and which people wore the uniforms?"

Oh. My. Gosh.
I'm convinced that I will never read a book as sad as this one no matter how many more books I read in my life. "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is so beautifully written and wonderfully crafted that I can't even begin to explain it. Books about the Holcaust are most definitely sad, but being told from the perspective of an innocent nine-year-old boy just makes it a million times worse. I don't normally cry at books, but "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" had me sobbing as I struggled through the last few pages. Despite being sad, I would still recommend this book. It presents a new but realistic viewpoint that I didn't see coming.

This book really depicted what life would have been like for the Jews back in world war 2 and shows what they would have went through and how dehumanising it would have been for them. Bruno's character was portrayed quite well and showed his innocence as a little boy while also showing what it would have been like on the German side of the fence. This book was really emotional and the only book I have ever cried to.
I liked the idea of this book and had super high expectations, I was very disappointed by the way the author chose to end it and I don’t mean that Bruno snuck in to the concentration camp and ended up dying but I am referring to the way he wrote it. The book went from being in mostly Bruno’s point of view the whole book to having the last chapter start “Nothing more was ever heard of Bruno after that.” The book wasn’t bad but to me it did not live up to all the hype.
