i found this book to be easy to read but sort of frustrating and, compared to the other ww2 books i've read, shallow in its depiction of the holocaust. i understand it was following the mind and life of a child, but even then i think the situation is realistically much more nuanced than what was shown in this book.

Well written but misinforming and shouldn’t be used to teach about WW2

Wow, what a horrible story of the Holocaust. And I don’t mean that in a “the Holocaust is bad” kind of way, but rather a “this book was really bad.” In what world would these boys actually be able to do this? The writing of this book is simply not good. As a classic, I strongly would advise people to read others. There are hundreds of brilliant accounts of the Holocaust THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED rather than this nonsense. The main character is to be seen as 9 years old but is written with the mindset that he’s 6. I don’t understand why Auschwitz and Fuhrer couldn’t actually be written in print. From someone who used to read exclusively Holocaust memoirs and non-fiction, try again.
