I read this almost a year ago and it opened my eyes. I discovered history fiction and fell in love. The fist chapters were good but at some point ( I believe it was around the ending pages) I could not let the book down. Finnished it in maybe 2 or 3 days.

An interesting perspective of the holocaust that left so much unsaid, maybe too much. I think the idea that we're all 'on the other side of the fence' and can't grasp the other reality was overplayed by the angering innocence and naivety of Bruno's character. This could be good for a middle school classroom where the true gruesomeness and horror is avoided and the teacher can focus on other themes of the war.

This banned book was the first banned book that was a movie I saw 10 years ago and I got around to reading the book as an adult the movie made me cry my eyes out but the book was also informative and gut wrenching because how that disgusting dictator was separating Jewish during the holocaust and myrdering them in concentration camps it was such a raw book and should never be banned it’s history that everyone should know
