Innocence in this book is admirable but don't expect anything intricate.

I haven't read many books about the holocaust that weren't told from the point of view of a victom. This book was told from the point of view of the son of the commander of Auschwitz. He was completely obvious to the lives of the "boy in the striped pajamas" and his family. He had no idea what the point of "out with" was or what "Heil Hitler" even meant. The writing of the book wasn't very good and based on that I have my doubts about the truthfullness of the story. I wonder if there were people like Bruno who had no idea what was happening in their country. If this actually happened then I am extremely surprised. I wouldn't recommend this book there are many more better books about the holocaust out there (sorry John Boyne).
Also I just wanted to point out that this was a really bad ending to a book. Ok I'm leaving now, I feel really bad...

This was recommended to me by my eldest and his friend. Beautifully written from two very innocent points of view. The innocence of the children even with the horrors of war surrounding them. Bruno helping his friend look for his father and the horrors that they get caught up in. So very innocent and yet dealt with in the storytelling so beautifully.
