I think the fact that Mags doesn't speak in his slave speak in this book made it better for me. The past books in this series were, at times, difficult to read due to his speech. That being said, the story was slow until the last 75 pages or so. Not a lot of character development. All that being said, I still enjoyed the story and don't regret the short time I spent reading it.

Now this is the Mercedes Lackey I love. Long journeys, village politics, a small and well defined group of main characters, and a twist or three before the end. And this book couldn't come at a better time, just as the series was starting to get dull and boring Lackey ramps it up again. Because honestly if I could skip a couple of middle books I would in this series. Lackey also makes sure this book is wrapped up whilst at the same time leaving and opening for what will come next for you to get your teeth into. I recommend holding out on the series just to read this!

Mercedes Lackey is an incredible storyteller but you need to have read the others in this series to understand what led to the events in this book. As far as I'm concerned any trip to Valdemar is one I want to be on. This installment of Mags answers a lot of the questions posed in earlier books with a sense of mystery and fun.

This volume was way better than the previous 3. We finally got some insight into other characters, albeit in a very predictable arc (Jakyr and Lita). Lackey continues to phone in these new books. I'm glad I got this one from the library.

Wonderful... up until the end. And it wasn't bad just not as good. Everything turns out nice and perfect which was a bit much. Glad I read it though,

I just don't dig this series as much as her others. Oh well!

For a last book in series, it was a bit of a let-down. It felt like a whole lot of filler and flashbacks and rehash. This could have been a lot better.
