This is just the kind of book my 9-year-old is into right now and trust me when I say it was just as entertaining for me as an adult. I'm now on a mission to try and find the rest of the books in this series (this one is the fifth).

Iggy desperately wants a dog. His parents, however, have a myriad of excuses for why it's not possible. But one lazy weekend, Iggy's older sister accidently let's slip the fact that they actually did own a dog once, and now his parents have no more excuses. Except one: Iggy is not responsible enough. So he strikes a deal with them; if he can meet all the conditions they set and prove himself to be responsible, they will finally get him a dog. It starts off well enough but being good and responsible is hard work and no one even seems to appreciate what he's doing.

When the teacher asks for volunteers to take the class pets home for the weekend, Iggy jumps at the chance to take all three. He reasons that if he can keep a chinchilla, a hamster and a snake in his room and take care of them so well that no one even knows they're there, his parents will have to admit he's responsible enough. What could possibly go wrong?😂

You'd be hard pressed to read this without laughing throughout. The writing is captivating and witty, perfectly complemented by the fantastic illustrations. This is not a preachy story and it doesn't focus too much on trying to teach the readers a lesson but instead relates a series of events told from Iggy's perspective with some guest appearances from the class pets (Gary the chinchilla's point of view is hilarious!). You can't help but root for Iggy while at the same time groaning inwardly at each mishap.
