I devoured this entire collection over the course of a day out adventuring with my parents and my children -- every stolen second in the back of the car, at the restaurant waiting for our food, walking in between places... Even sitting on a patio, half-listening to my father telling jokes to my oldest son, this collection still made me cry -- specifically the poem "Salat the morning after a terrorist attack."

Written by a Muslim Filipino-Jordanian immigrant, this poem touches on immigration, anti-Muslim prejudice, and terrorism, as you would expect. But also faith, and family, and parenthood, and belonging.

I loved every single poem in this collection. Beautiful.
