This is a short story about a Dad putting aside his own desires in order to do what is best to keep his family united and safe. This one does not have near as many content warnings but be prepared to talk about racial profiling.

Ohhh I loved this little short story. This is a perfect example of a children’s book that brings up racism. I think it’s brought up in a way that leaves room for discussion after reading the novel.

This certainly reminded me of traveling with my family. It’s amazing (and awfully sad) how much the traditions of traveling while Black have stayed the same in 2023. It’s appalling the lengths we have to go through to stay safe around police.

It wasn't clear to me that this was Stacey's family until I started reading All The Days Past, All The Days Come. In the first chapter we are introduced to Stacey's wife Dee who doesn't like nicknames and calls him by his proper name which is Robert.

I haven't finished that book yet but Marie is mentioned as the older sister of 'lois. I think there was a mix up with names or a change of names with Wilma and Marie (Rie) because Wilma is mentioned as the older sister of 'lois.

I also felt like this wasn't a part of the Logan family saga before finding this out and I saw some reviews say the same so I wanted to clarify for everybody else and will update if necessary when I finish All The Days Past, All The Days Come.

Tia's Takeaway's

●It was indeed an unforgettable ride

●A sorrowful tale that shows how Black kids have to learn adult lessons way too young

●Mildred D. Taylor tells these stories with such aplomb, sincerity, and glaring honesty that ensures history won't be rewritten or erased

●Note to self: read all of the novellas/short stories in the Logan family saga
