This could have been 200 pages shorter. It's sooooo slow and nothing really happens. Also, a lot of the same phrases are used over and over again. A decent editor could have made it so much better.

God was this painful. The last two books could’ve been one if she’d just shaved away the bullshit. This one’s filler mostly consisted of preachy monologues about what SA is and why it’s wrong. Which is true but didn’t need to be in here 😩 Also spoilers…..

Bro they totally went Bella and Edward when she ascended. With the world ending around them, she woke up and they proceeded to fuck 3 or 4 times before addressing ANYTHING else.

Daddy Nyktos is back! I loved ASITE but felt let down by ALITF as that book barely moved the plot. This book made up for it in a big way. Sera and Nyktos’ love story is beautifully written and feels real. It is complex, sad, and inspiring and a beautiful representation of love. Nyktos is THE one and only shadow daddy. He deserves all that is good. We get so many new tidbits that I am looking forward to continuing the series to see how it all comes together. Attes is my favorite character in this book, we get to learn more about him and knowing him in this timeline, makes me love his descendant in the current timeline more. Spoilers with my burning questions to follow.
Ok so regarding Ash’s kardia, he and Sera are heartmates which trumps all. He successfully ascends Sera and we see her becoming the queen of the gods and true primal of life. We learn Ash had a vision of Sera when she was born & knew she would become his weakness and had his kardia removed right before he finally brought her to the Shadowlands in an attempt to save her.  Also, Sera was never Sotoria, she was a vessel with her soul and Sotoria’s both living inside her. It’s deeply hinted Attes loved Sotoria and it’s this that makes him pledge himself to Sera. The book ends by successfully releasing Nyktos’ dad’s soul from the star so they can use it to hold Sotoria’s soul instead, as ultimately she is the only one who can truly defeat Kolis. Kolis is a creep and I cannot wait for his death. The twist and surprises were learning Callum is actually Sotoria’s brother and the first revenant. And that Sotoria means pretty poppy and based on what we learn, I assume Poppy is Sotoria reborn and the one who can truly kill Kolis. How that will happen when Cas is her mate… I am curious to see play out in the next book.

the series could have ended here and I'd be happy with the character developments and plot resolutions.<Spoiler> JLA has one final book for this series coming out may 7, 2024. It's nice to know that's there's a release date already planned so fans don't have to wait ad infinitum for the resolution of the series

The 40-50 pages of straight smut was too much. The first 70% was so fast paced, and then things got sad and smutty. It did prove that what was done for Soul of Ash and Blood can be done in approximately 3 chapters.

I’ve crushedd every book in this series so far. Good vibes and definitely better than FBAA. But this book was especially dissapointing.

I didn't find the first part of the book to be slow like others have said. There was a fair amount of action, but it was so tough to read. Kolis was vilainified to the extreme. He became an abuser in the grossest way and it all felt like a weird watpadd story. Like Sera's first escape attempt? Come on what was that. Between that and the diamond, it just felt like there was no creativity for those Sera and Kolis scenes. At times, it felt as if there was a big theme around SA and overcoming trauma in this book. I respect that, but it bothered me. I read fantasy for escape and was not mentally prepared for the content to be that dark.

My other probelm was with the side characters. This can probably be blamed on me not doing a re-read of the earlier books in the series, but I could not for the life of me remember the back story on the other characters. There are so many--perhaps too many? And in this book, it seemed like they had no purpose other than to verbally provide world building. There was SO much of that. As much as I like the fun banter dialogue, I would have liked a little more action.

The last 150ish pages were the slowest for me. Such a drawn out conclusion with Sera and Ash just going in circles saying the same thing. A lot of major events happened, but were written anticlimactically. It felt like the emphasis was on other, moments that were seemingly less critical to the plot.

I'm interested to see how this series will conclude. This book felt like it had a fairly closed ending. Here's to hoping there will be more revelations in the final book. This one didn't seem to give a lot, but might have possibly been a big set up for the end...of both Flesh and Fire and Blood and Ash.
