My god this book was nothing but pain. We didn’t get any plot until 70% in, and then almost none after. I guessed every “twist” way before it happened because this woman’s idea of foreshadowing is to beat you over the head with “hints”. Our main characters spent almost the entire book apart, and then when they got together all they did was fuck and talk about things we already know. This book made me want to tear my hair out from sheer boredom and frustration.

It was really slow with Sera being captured by Kolis and once her and Ash are back together it's like JLA made up all of the missing sex scenes. I skimmed the last portion because of how MUCH damn sex they were having.

Review:
I finished this  and what a great way to start off where A Light in the Flame left off on a cliffhanger. The journey the characters are still going on, keeps me continuing on with the Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire world and I cannot wait for the last book in this series to come our. It also continues to make me cry, laugh and feel anger at the main characters as well as the side characters actions, But like I said I love it so very much. Highly recommend both series if you want to either continue or start them.

This book is pretty depressing for the first third or half, and kind of a slog. I appreciate that Armentrout isn't afraid to depict the psychological and physical abuse Kolis puts Sera through, and the effect it has on her, but it doesn't make for the most fun reading, and I missed Ash's and Sera's dynamic a lot (although the dream scenes were definitely a good salve). Everything Sera learns is interesting, though, and her slow realization of her own power and will is captivating. The back half or third of the book picks up a lot, and once Ash was back in the picture I basically breathed a sigh of relief lol. It's obviously inevitable that somehow some way he'll love her, and yet the journey to get there was lovely.
