I enjoyed Among the Impostors. I’m so glad that Haddix continued this series. I can’t wait to see how it all ends - I hope happily with all of the Shadow Children freed! The ending to this book surprised me, which I liked. The twists and turns will keep kids engrossed, too. It’s a good one for learning and discussion. I love “smart” books for kids!

A good sequel.

Plot is entertaining and allows readers to really feel the struggles Luke is going through.

I thought this when I read the first book, but thought it over and over again while reading this one - I can't believe this is a children's book series. The premise is scary - after a war and world wide famine, families are only allowed to have two children. Any additional children (3rds, 4ths, 5ths, etc.) are executed if caught. This gives way to an entire host of "shadow children" because they hide in the shadows of their homes (if their parents don't throw them out in the streets.) In the first book the main character Luke discovers another shadow child next door and is awakened to the cause of fighting the population police. In the second book, he gets a fake id card and goes to school for the first time. In school, he meets another group of shadow children but someone among their ranks betrays them to the population police.

I read this book series when I was a teenager and loved it, this author carried my through middle and high school. The writing itself is pretty basic but the storyline is so interesting I’m going to continue reading. I’m glad I don’t remember many details between my first time reading these books and now!
