I learned so much! Maybe it jumps around topics a bit, but the disorganization isn’t too distracting.

This book is an incredible deep dive into the world history of women alcohol. It goes from the start of civilization and the long standing impact of Hammurabi’s code up to 2020 and everything in between. It doesn’t shy away from the racism, classism, misogyny and colonialism that is tied into so much of the history of women and alcohol the world over. I learnt so much and loved how the narrative wove together women’s stories from all over the globe.

Interesting history on women and alcohol!

4.5 stars - A great micro history with style. For someone who doesn't enjoy nonfiction, the conversational tone helps me stay engaged even though the topic is already interesting to me. I'm not a fan of the organizational structure of each chapter, but that is a personal preference, so I round up in stars.
Now it's time for a drink!

I loved this book. From reading the synopsis on the back to the very last page, I loved every minute. Not only is it informative (now, when my boyfriend absently asks me an alcohol related question over a glass of wine, I sometimes know the answer!) but is funny too! Mallory O'Meara had me genuinely laughing as I devoured this book.
And yes, it's about alcohol and women but its not just for women who drink. I would recommend this book to anyone, of any gender, whether they enjoy a girly drink at the end of the day or not. Cheers!
