I'm reading this series backwards. According to the epilogue explanation, this is supposed to be the sequel of a non Gideon Crew book (the Ice Limit) but you don't have to read that one to get this.

Summary: From the other book, an alien seed is lying at the bottom of the sea. Gideon is hired by his employer to explore, then nuke whatever creature is at the bottom.

I liked this book because the writing was easy to follow and the story easy to get into. The action was fast with good flow - there was no long boring parts. The ending was a bit quick but I was ok with it. I'm now getting ready to read another Gideon Crew book.

If you're a fan of Preston and Child you won't be disappointed by this book. It has all of their best elements: alien life forms, adventure, and thrilling science fiction.

I remember not being over the moon about the other Gideon Crew books (more of a Pendergast fan), but this one put them back in my good graces.

Excellent book, a real page-turner. I am a fan of the authors but have never read a Gideon Crew book. This was an excellent combination of characters from a previous work, The Ice Limit, and the new character, Crew. The "meteorite" took center stage and was very cleverly envisioned. I was able to suspend disbelief for the entire book, I was on that ship, it was amazing. This goes right up on the shelf next to other keepers of Preston/Child, such as Reliquary, Brimstone, and Cabinet of Curiosities. Am looking forward to more Gideon Crew adventures. The ending was particularly well done, amazing.

Man, I was really hoping Gideon would finally die.  I can't stand his character, but I'm a completionist, so I'm determined to get through these.  I enjoyed The Ice Limit when i read it a while back, so i was curious to see how the story played out. It was fine. Preston and Child have no qualms about killing off their characters, which keeps it interesting. But i dislike how they write Gideon's sex interests in these books. It's getting pretty old.

This is easily the best of the Gideon Crew novels for me. I loved the sequel to Ice Limit and getting to know what happened next. I liked seeing the characters return, and I enjoyed the science and fantasy of things. Eli Glinn felt a bit like himself again, while also this..different character that he's kind of felt like the last two books.

How better to enjoy a cruise than reading a book set on a ship that gets into a whole lot of trouble. I borrowed this one from Ashley and thoroughly enjoyed. It moves fast and has an interesting enough plot that I wanted to know what happened.

Firstly, I hadn’t realised this was a sequel to The Ice Limit which I hadn’t read. However, this was written in such a way as to make that not an issue at all. I’ve also not ready any of the other Gideon Crew books. This ended up with quite a few themes, which made it more episodal than cluttered. There was one scene of extreme violence that was a little unexpected and has certainly stuck with me. Most of the characters were likeable or, at least, interesting, which made certain character deaths more impactful (not just due to the manner of their death…). I’m now eager to read The Ice Limit and more of Gideon Crew.

I received a free ARC, however it was missing approx 60 pages, and they were (I felt) important pages, so I decided to wait to finish the book until I could get a full copy.

It was worth the wait. I am a big fan of both authors, and I loved The Ice Limit. This sequel was worth the wait.

If you haven't read The Ice Limit, this book stands on its own. There is a brief overview given by one of the characters. But I do recommend reading the first book, as that truly sets the tone for this story.

If you are a fan of action packed stories, this is your book.

Gideon Crew, a hero from several other books, has been recruited to join a team going to the Antarctic to destroy the meteorite that sank into the ocean 5 years previously. Some of this team made the first journey, and some are new.

Turns out, that meteor was actually an egg or spore, and is now growing at an alarming rate on the ocean floor. It has the potential to destroy the planet if left unchecked. Gideon and his teammates must find a way to destroy this organism, which is much more than it seems, before it destroys the world we live on.

But the organism is protecting itself. Can they destroy it before time runs out? Or before it destroys them?

This was good but not great. The ending was satisfying. Although, the authors used a now common enemy vehicle to add action and suspense. I was hoping for more originality.
