This was my free holiday gift audiobook from Audible - they picked it because Frozen was based on this story. Sort of. (I could see some of the fairy tale elements that were taken from this story and used to make Frozen, but honestly I could see this story more in the Once Upon A Time storylines than Frozen. But whatever.)

I am always surprised by how dark and weird fairy tales are. I was also surprised by how Christian and religious this story was, with the kids reciting hymns throughout. Bizarre and totally unexpected.

Overall, enjoyed.

A nice little Audible fairy tale for the ride to and from the drudgery of work.

That fourth star is fort the magnificent illustrations that I just love love love

Great story; LOVE the illustrations! Appropriate that I read it on a snow day! ;)

After seeing the movie Frozen, I decided it would be interesting to compare various versions of The Snow Queen. Now, after having looked at three different picture book versions, I have decided that I really don't particularly like the story. The various vignettes of action along the way just don't seem to hang together very well. It reminds me of the way some children write: first this happened, then this happened, then this happened, and finally this (slightly more interesting thing) happened.

I was going to read some of the longer book adaptations of the story, but I am reconsidering the idea now. I think I will move on to something else. So many books; so little time.

I've never read the original story. Oddly enough, the Snow Queen doesn't actually do much. Interesting children's fairytale.

What on earth did I just read?

★ one very bewildered star

So this is awkward. I was not expecting [b:The Snow Queen|139987|The Snow Queen|Hans Christian Andersen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320401869l/139987._SX50_.jpg|2535765] to be religious. Spoiler alert: this is a *very* Christian fairy tale.

The genres listed on the main Goodreads page for the book made no mention of anything religious, just simply "fairy tale", "fantasy", "classic", "fiction" and the like. When recommended to me, it was supposed to be the children's fairy tale that inspired a Disney movie -- a winter story of friendship and love, not The Gospel According to Andersen.

I found [b:The Snow Queen|139987|The Snow Queen|Hans Christian Andersen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320401869l/139987._SX50_.jpg|2535765] hard to follow, rambling, nonsensical and manipulative.
