I would recommend listening to the audiobook narrated by Meryl Streep because she plays the character so well, it almost feels like she's telling you her life story

Loved listening to Meryl Streep read this. Very much enjoyed the story… it just went on forever. If it was shorter, I would have given it 4 stars.

I love Patchett’s writing style — it was relaxing, like if my grandmother was the one reciting the story to me.
Loved this story about the way we reminisce. When our choices leads us to a fulfilling life, we tend to look back like if nothing before had ever brought us such joy, and to diminish the role others played in the shaping of our decisions. Lara talks of her relationship to Peter Duke in such a way that it doesn’t make you question if she has regrets, or makes you rethink the love she currently shares with her husband — even though at the time she probably considered Duke a great love.
