What a fun book! Cannot wait to read to first grade together with Shrek!. I want to be an inspiring, book promoting and fun librarian like Mrs. Brooks :)

The little student narrator of this story doesn’t quite understand why her librarian loves books until the perfect books find a way.

Audience: P-2nd graders, reluctant readers, and excited librarians who like their silly costumes :)

Appeal: Very humorous and with great illustrations, it shows kids that just because they don't like one type of book doesn't mean they won't love another. After being read aloud, it could also spark great discussions about each child's favorite book or subject.

First of all, ginormous thank-you's to Michael Emberley for drawing such a cool, hip librarian! And thank you to Barbara Bottner for showing the truth - some kids don't fall in love with books right away, but even tough sells "can find something funny and fantastic and appalling in the library." Amen! My new fave to share with library tours!

I picked this book up from the library because this girl reminds me of my daughter. After I read the book to her, my daughter said that I'm just like Miss Brooks.

I took a star off because I think the kid could have made a better book choice in the end... I mean Sherk??? Really???

However, if I'm being completely honest its just the kind of thing my daugter (the book hater) would pick in real life and its just the kind of thing I would fuss over too so I guess the auther is just being true to her characters!

OMG I want my own copy of this. A little girl is grosseed out by her librarian's enthusiasm for books, until she finds a gross book (Shrek) that sparks her own enthusiasm. My favorite part was when the girl asks her mom if they can move away and the mom says that won't work because there's a book-crazed librarian in every town. Awesome.

I am a sucker for books that celebrate books. I am also a sucker for books that celebrate teachers/librarians. This book does both. I love that the librarian never gives up and is such a book lover. I love that the little girl is real and someone that all teachers will encounter each year. And I love how the two come together with a perfect ending.
