DISCLAIMER: It's been a while since I read this book but I'm going back to do reviews for all the books I've read since 2018, so forgive any lapses of memory.

Essential reading in my opinion, especially for any American. Douglass is one of the greatest American writers and thinkers and his story of his life, interwoven with his philosophies and turns of phrase, gives a vital tale of American history and society that modern Americans need to read. He also is an inspiration for any activist, so if you are interested in activism and/or education, I highly recommend reading this memoir.

The epilogue was a particularly damming dress down of the American Christians of his day. Continues to echo through to modern times. We have much to repent of.
